TRA2012: The deadline for submissions for research funding for the CDE’s latest round of Teaching and Research Awards has now passed.

We received some very interesting proposals and are now involved in the tricky selection procedure!  Watch this space for more details on the projects we are able to fund.

RESEARCH IN DISTANCE EDUCATION 2011: This year’s CDE conference was held on 26 October 2011 at Senate House, University of London.  Our two keynote speakers for the day were Professor Eileen Scanlon, Associate Director (Research and Scholarship) at the Open University, and Professor Richard Noss, Co-Director of the London Knowledge Lab.  The day also featured numerous other research presentations and workshops.

TRA 2011: Details of the latest round of the Teaching and Research Awards (TRAs) for 2011 funded by the CDE can have been released. 

Projects include: exploring the issue of cultural sensitivity in programme and teacher development; an evaluation of predictors for student success in distance learning; use of an ipsative feedback model to improve assessment practices; the use of open educational resources (OERs) to support tutors in their professional development, validating clinical skills development using e-learning; and how mobile learning can support student peer learning and knowledge sharing.  More details can be seen  on our TRA 2011 page.

CDE SEMINARS 2011:  You can access audio, presentation slides and other details from out 2011 CDE seminars at our events page. Just in the last few months sessions have looked at virtual worlds, science teaching and tutoring in Virtual Learning Environments.  Upcoming seminars will be looking at Open Educational Resources and libraries.

NEW DISTANCE LEARNING REPORT: The London International Development Centre’s (LIDC) new report highlights what works in distance learning for health professionals.  The new report, ‘Distance Learning for Health: What works’ by Chris Joynes, presents findings from a global review of distance learning programmes for medical professionals in low and middle income countries.
