The place of distance education within the student life-world: a study of international distance learners

This research project was an empirical investigation of overseas learners enrolled on courses provided through UoL external programme. As such the primary activity was the conduction and transcription of 60 learner telephone interviews. This was successfully achieved. Interview meetings were also conducted with teaching/co‐ordination staff from the relevant colleges in the study.
A separate full end‐of‐project report has been produced detailing the research activities and findings (see report accessed via the above link). This report will form the basis of three academic journal articles. The project can be considered as innovative, as it constitutes one of only a few academic studies looking specifically at the distance learner experience in situ, and is a contribution to an underresearched area of international distance education. As such the project sought to fill a number of gaps in the distance education literature.
