CENTRE FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION SEMINAR
Following the money – the cost benefits of student support in distance education
On Thursday 15 May we welcomed Ormond Simpson, CDE Visiting Fellow, back to Senate House to conduct a free lunchtime seminar analysing the cost benefits of student support in distance education. The seminar showed that student support need not be a pure institutional cost in distance education. If properly designed and evaluated it can actually make a financial profit for the institution as well as enhance its reputation. Audio and presentation slides can be found below.
Ormond has conducted several presentations on behalf of the CDE, including A Puzzled Look a MOOCs at last year’s annual CDE conference, a seminar on Triumphs and Disasters in Distance Education and a series of student support sessions (accessible from his own website: http://www.ormondsimpson.com/page3.htm). Audio, slides and other resources are available from the respective links. To join the CDE’s mailing list for future updates please contact us here: firstname.lastname@example.org.
